Interrupting the flow.

I'm sure you won't mind this little diversion from Mount Maunganui but here I am up in the city and getting around here and there catching up with folks including my 99yr old Aunt Olive, friends and family, and getting my city fix in K'rd. yep! I ventured there on Monday hoping to catch up with a special lady, Sarah Lancaster at her little Sew Love centre. All the way in on the bus I was thinking maybe she's not there on Mondays, and I was right. Of course! Everyone needs a day off and she is busy all weekend as well as the week days.
Still, I was there in St Kevin's arcade and it was lunch time so I enjoyed some delicious frittata and a cider ( given I wasn't driving ), in the wonderful atmosphere of the Alleluya cafe with it large array of mismatched vintage furniture out in the atrium that overlooks Myers Park.
As usual, these pictures don't do it justice and of course one cannot capture the atmosphere with this medium. But I did enjoy my spell there and among the op shops nearby with just a couple of finds.
BUT TODAY, THURSDAY, SUCCESS!!
Sew Love was open and Sarah was there busy sewing.
This beautiful, fabulous young lady is doing great things. She has brought sewing, and upcycling, into the limelight, teaching classes to hungry eager learners, encouraging folk to upcycle older clothing, fabrics and op shop finds into fashion pieces or just fun and practical stuff like bags, cushions, etc.
Graduating from working from home with pop up workshops and stalls she now has this wonderful space in the hub of K'rd, such a popular centre for such a huge mix of folks. It has an awesome atmosphere, and I love it.
The space is not big in size but big in the Wellcome and energy within. Sarah was busy making tank tops trombone sweat shirting and has a rack of items for sale.
Vintage fabrics line the shelves along with makes by other folks. All are Wellcome to come and use the machines, and other sewing stuff, with help and advice at hand.
A young lady from a neighbouring shop came in for help with her op shop jacket sleeves and left much happier with the problem solved.
I have struck a quiet day, but Sarah will be here till late with a workshop in the evening. It was so lovely to spend these few hours with her. I wore my skirt and voluminous doily covered studio smock to show her and took some hand stitching to do. It was a thoroughly special time. Thankyou Sarah, and all the best in your very worthwhile venture. I hope I can join you again soon.
Blessings and love, Trills.xxx

Back tracking.

Hi there. If you were waiting for more from Mt Maunganui, well here we are at last. The reception was very weak down there so my post didn't go through until we were home. Life seems so hectic, I don't know where the days go, but here I am house sitting for Jin in Mt Eden again, so I am going to try and put the rest of our wonderful break away on record.
Friday we spent most of the day with Kerry's brother Rod and his wife Maree. We had a good catch up and a lovely lunch out.
Then Saturday broke with this awesome sunrise and blue skies. I was up early and keen to catch sight of the Sea Princess coming into port. Sister ship of the one we will be on in less than 2 weeks.
Over at the harbour side of the peninsular where it is sheltered the boats are at anchor.
I love these old fishing boats. That's the Tauranga port in the distance.
I set out along the track that circles around the mount. Such a glorious morning there were plenty of other folk walking or running along the track.
Rather large driftwood on the rocky shoreline below the track.
Can you see the shags in the overhanging Pohutakawa trees. One had just flown over me with a mouth full of twigs. It seems they are nesting up there and I have learned that the Pohutakawa is their favourite nesting tree, with the male bringing in the twigs for building and the female (of course ) designing and arranging the nest to her satisfaction. They will raise 2 young, mate for life, and often nest in the same place every time.
But back to the main purpose of my early walk, this looks promising. The Pilot boat returning to the harbour.
And now there goes the tug boat. I decided to take a seat and let the show unfold.
Then she appeared from around the corner. What a perfect morning to sail into this port.
I just sat there as she sailed serenely by, so close I could see the people on the top deck looking out.
I didn't follow her in but kept walking around the mount enjoying the spectacular views around every corner. I love views of sea, rocks, trees, and walking free in this beautiful place. Kerry plans to walk up to the top of the Mount later. I did that last time and now with my dickey knees I am content to take the low path.
Another love, the sun glinting on the water. I think we're nearly home.
Yes. Here we are.
Folks heading up or around the way I have come.
But I'm heading for breakfast.
It's so good to see Kerry relaxed. Bare feet is a sure sign.
That and a Beaded Wheels mag to read. What more could a man want. He's off to climb the mount and I will be off down the town looking for the op shops. Just till unch time. See you later.

Escape.

We arrived here at Mt Maunganui on Thurs avo and parked in our campsite. This is our view out the front window. Stunning!
Yes! We are really here after weeks of anticipation and false starts due to weather etc. The weather is blustery with squally showers but promises to fine up over the next few days.
Friday morning brings some sunshine but still very blustery winds that shook Emmylou during the night and showers are still passing but I'm off down onto the beach to fossic.

I love the sun glinting on the sea. It is very calm today as the wind is coming from the west. I can't remember which it is. An off shore wind or onshore, but it's is flattening the sea making small gentle waves instead of surf.
I also love rock formations, but do you see what I see? Shoals of seashells! Yeah!
Just look!
And look!
And look!
I love these pretty salmon coloured scallop shells and I see broken shells to craft something special. I'm dropping off the iPad and getting a bag to start collecting. See you later.
Just a taste of what's to come. It's now Sat and this morning I captured the sunrise and you can just see in the window of the bus my shell creation made last night.
I'm on borrowed time with iPad so will finish this post with more to come. Blessings, Trills.xx
