Joy of glorious joys

Today began like most these days. Same old, same old, I thought as far as blogging, then we had just had our late morning tea watching F1 highlights and I said, "This would be a perfect day to go to Maraetai". It was hot and fine. Kerry checked the tides and said it was 1pm but there were jobs to do and Tues I had appts, so what about Wed. Showers forecast . Let's do it now we said together. This was 11.30. By 12.00 we were on our way.
Yes! Yeah! Emmylou was taking us. She was so happy to be coming out of the barn again.
Of course we could have gone by car but we just love our old bus.
She bounded out the gate, and we were off on another little adventure.
Down our road, waving out to neighbours we passed.
Through traffic lights at Papakura and through suburbia.
Through the countryside which is still very dry so I didn't feel like taking many pic of it. This has always been a favourite cottage of mine and I can remember the days when it was derilect. The pylons are a bit close now though every time I see pylons I think of the movie 'The Castle', one of my favourites.
Through the lovely village of Clevedon.
Then at last we hit the East coast at Duders beach. It's very shallow here for swimming, left turn.
Thats Waiheke Island over there which gives this part of the coast good shelter.
We'll just follow the road.
The narrow windy road.
Sometimes wondering how we will get pass an oncoming vehicle.
Folks fishing out on the wharf of a little bay.
This appeared to be an interview being filmed. I wonder what that's about and if we will be in the picture as the camera man was looking at us as we passed. Maybe he was just cursing the noise we made passing by interfering with the recording.
Never mind, the next corner revealed our destination.
Some years ago these bollards weren't there and we could park our cars under the trees on the grass to picnic, and swim.
Now we park along the road right by the water.
How many places in the world can you do this.
It was hot and we were so keen to get on that beautiful clear, calm sea for our first swim this year and probably our only swim as these warm days must end soon.
Its so beautiful and so few people enjoying it.
After a delicious swim we tucked into the lunch I had quickly thrown into a bag .
And a good old cuppa is not far off the boil.
Sitting outside in our deck chairs we embraced the warmth, the light, the few people, the joy of this day.
After treating ourselves to coffee and cake at the cafe over the road we headed back to the bus.
We had arrived at 1pm, just an hour after we left and now it was 3pm. Just 2 hours but they were delicious and so reviving.
Now that daylight saving has finished the day draws in so much quicker. The early evening sun was casting long shadows and golden light as we sat on the deck counting our blessings and giving thanks for a wonderful day. Hope your day was special in some way too. Blessings Trill. Xx
