Her I am.

No, this is not a cozy B&B in the UK. I am at home and this is my very unstaged lounge with all manner of stuff close to hand in my corner as I spend a great portion of my days resting my knee. Yes dear friends I did a good job on my knee and now await a specialist visit on the 13th and an MRI. I have had to cancel my trip ( I would have been on my way from LA to London at this point) .

I am trying to put my best foot forward and look to a new plan to be in UK late September to attend Yarndale in Skipton, North Yorkshire. I have already booked a B&B, keeping positive that my knee will be fixed by then.

Yes, I was rather upset to begin with, and mad at myself for doing it, but hey! I have to be happy it didn't happen over there or worse in USA, where I was dropping in to visit an old school friend. It happened just so easily I hardly know what I did, so I could just as likely been on my own in the middle of London. I could have ended up on "24 hrs in A&E" hah!

So, along with those jolly sox I bought in Hokitika on our SI trip, I have dug out the bright yarns to jolly me along with a new project.

No, I haven't finished my russet blanket. It is also close by, but when I saw the mandala that Lucy was making I had to hightail it over to the designer at ( zootyowl cards.blogspot.co.uk ), to follow the pattern.

I love the starflower pattern. It is very big. I am only half way at this point.

On fine mornings I still like to set up the deck for outdoor living and relaxing, but there wasn't time for that on Thursday.

Not first thing anyway. The day before when I was sitting on the deck this plume on smoke rose from a neighbours place. No, no panic. The fire ban is off now the rains have come and there are folks burning   Bonfires everywhere and when I told Kerry, we decided on this windless morning to light ours.

Of course I wasn't much help so I was sat in a chair on the hill above to supervise proceedings, while the man lit his fire with much encouragement from the chair and a little accelerant help.

There was soon a flame

And some smoke, but not too much. It was early and still very damp with dew so the surrounding grass was safe.

Once it was going proper it was time to put the jug on.

And enjoy a hot cuppa with ginger nuts and treats as we sat watching our fire from above. We could feel the warmth from it as we were sitting under

What is left of the 800 pine trees that were tiny seedlings in the long grass 22 yrs ago when we bought the property. There's just 6 left now and 4 of them will go before Christmas.

They tower above us as we enjoy our bonfire. I do like bonfires, watching the flames, hearing the crackling as it eats the dry twiggy wood that was not suitable for the shredder.

Taking in our peaceful surroundings on this cool quiet morning this is our new boundary fence with our old home on the hill to the left.

Another neighbour who grazes a couple of steers back and forth from our place. It usually keeps the grass down but with just one beast at the moment the grass has grown long.

Right at the bottom between the shorter bush and the tall trees is the inlet from the harbour that comes up to meet a creek. There's a strip of land at the edge that belongs to the crown but we can graze it and plant on it. There's a steep bank down to the water and it is very muddy water so we leave it to nature.

The thicket to the right is sheltering the beastie at the moment. We just stuck all sorts of trees in there when we first came. I often dream of big things down below like a deciduous woodland, maybe half in wild flowers, and a shepherds hut beside a proper fire pit sounds so cool.

Later in the day the beastie came out of hiding to see what was going on. He may be waiting for the warm ashes to roll and sleep in. Really! They do seem to like the ashes, but Kerry has put the fence back up around it.

The days is coming to a close.

The sun is setting much earlier and has moved around.

But can still set the sky on fire.

Time to get back to that mandala. Here it is just about finished.

And now, Tadaaaahhh! There are still some ends to sew in but it measures 54cm. I'm wondering what to do with it.

Emmy says it's just right for her and she likes the colours.

Then while she's away, Casper takes it over.

Come on Casper , move over.

Oh ok. Peace reigns in our little cottage. Everyone is happy after another day in our peaceful corner of the world. Hope your corner of the world is just as you like it. Love and blessings, Trills.xx
